Frequently Asked Questions
If it has a plug, we test it. This includes:
Moveable items: Kettles, toasters, vacuum cleaners, and heaters.
IT Equipment: Laptops, PC monitors, and printers.
Large appliances: Fridges, washing machines, and dishwashers (even if they are “built-in”).
Cables: Extension leads and detachable power cords.

A Certivest engineer performs two key checks on every item:
Visual Inspection: Checking for frayed wires, cracked plugs, or signs of overheating.
Electrical Testing: Using a specialized PAT tester to check earth continuity and insulation resistance—faults you can’t see with the naked eye.
An average appliance takes about 2 to 5 minutes to test. A standard 2-bedroom rental property in London usually takes less than an hour, while an office with 50+ desks may require a half-day.
We have to briefly unplug the item to test it. For offices, we can work desk-by-desk to minimize downtime, or arrange “out-of-hours” visits to ensure your team stays productive.
There is no “one size fits all,” as it depends on the risk. However, Certivest London follows these industry best practices:
Offices/Schools: Every 12–24 months.
Rental Properties: Every 12 months or at the start of a new tenancy.
Construction Sites: Every 3 months (due to high wear and tear).
If an appliance is dangerous, our engineer will:
Fail the item: Apply a “Fail” sticker and inform you immediately.
Minor Repairs: Often, a fail is just due to a loose wire in the plug or an incorrect fuse. In many cases, we can fix these on the spot for free or a small fee.
Removal: We recommend the item be removed from service until it is properly repaired or replaced.
