Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, every business (even those with fewer than 5 employees) must have a “suitable and sufficient” fire risk assessment. In 2026, enforcement has tightened, with fire authorities placing greater emphasis on digital record-keeping and active action plans.

This is typically the employer, business owner, or facilities manager. You are legally accountable for ensuring the FRA is carried out and that its recommendations are followed. Failure to do so can result in unlimited fines or criminal prosecution.

While the law doesn’t state a fixed expiry, Certivest London recommends:
Annually: As a minimum best practice for standard offices and shops.
Immediately: If you change the building layout, significantly increase staff numbers, or introduce new high-risk machinery/chemicals.

Our certified assessor will systematically evaluate:
Ignition & Fuel Sources: From kitchen appliances and server rooms to chemical storage and waste management.
Fire Detection: Ensuring your alarm system is appropriate for the building size and is tested weekly.
Firefighting Equipment: Checking that the correct types of extinguishers (CO2, Foam, Water) are serviced and easily accessible.
Escape Routes: Verifying that fire exits are clear, signage is visible, and emergency lighting is functional.
Staff Training: Reviewing your records for fire drills and fire warden training.

Yes. We tailor our assessments to your sector. For example, a restaurant FRA focuses heavily on kitchen suppression systems, while a warehouse FRA focuses on high-bay storage and loading bay safety.

By 2026, the UK has accelerated the transition away from older BS 476 testing toward European BS EN 13501 standards for fire resistance. Our assessors will check that any new fire doors or materials installed in your premises meet these updated benchmarks.

You are now required to have documented Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) for any staff or regular visitors with mobility issues. Our assessment will help you identify these needs.

We understand that businesses move fast. You will receive your professional digital PDF report—complete with a prioritized Action Plan—within 24 hours of our visit.
